Updating QikKids

SmartUpdate is an automatic Internet download and install program for QikKids. When you choose Check for Updates from the Internet Menu the following sequence of events takes place:

1. QikKids closes down and SmartUpdate is launched.
2. Your computer connects to the Internet
3. Clicking Connect initiates authentication, if passed, SmartUpdate logs on to the Palm Technology server and downloads a list of the latest components for QikKids
4. SmartUpdate compares components in the downloaded list to the versions installed on your computer and provides you with a list of all updated items.
5. Press Download, all updates are downloaded and installed. You will receive a message when the operation has completed.
6. You should then disconnect from the Internet if necessary.

Technical Details on SmartUpdate

QikKids is upgraded transparently through the Internet via a managed update system. Client side components are compared with those on the server and only newer components are downloaded. The system fully supports proxy servers and uses SOAP headers over port 80, enabling operation through most firewalls. Proxy information is retrieved directly from the proxy setup in Internet Explorer; therefore Internet Explorer must be correctly configured and fully operational even if you do not use it as your primary browser. To confirm that Internet Explorer is properly configured and able to contact our server, open Internet Explorer and browse to the following URL: http://www.qikkids.com/qkdatabase/smartupdate.asmx. If everything is operational, you should receive a listing of the web service functions used by SmartUpdate.
